FC Groningen - Virgil Van Dijk - 2011 - Voetbalshirt

On the 26th of may 2011, a 19 year old rookie Virgil van Dijk made his debut for the Dutch club fc Groningen. The still unknown defender was brought as substituded at half in the first leg of the Eredivisie playoffs against Ado-Den Haag. r
Groningen lost 5-1, but managed to comeback in the return match at home with 5-1. Virgil van Dijk scored twice that second match with one goal being a free kick.r

This match prepared shirt is possible match worn but without axtual proof. Yet this is the only match ever Groningen played with the blue DAS sponsor logo on the back on their home kit and Van Dijk played with long sleeves. This makes it a one o f a kind shirt. The playoffs were the only two matches van Dijk played with #48 .r

In 2011 during my study I did my internship at Playing for Succes Tilburg (football club Willem 2). This project helps insecure children regain their self-confidence. PFS is a collaboration with multiple professional football clubs around the Netherlands and one of them is FC Groningen. In a collab of swapping shirts with other clubs, at PFS Tilburg we got some FC Groningen shirts. r
At the end of my internship I personally received this shirt of van Dijk shirt as a gift. Offcourse not knowing in the end he would become one of the best defenders to ever walk the pitch.r

The shirt is still unwashed. The orange cirkels mark some spots of vains of dirt. The color of the marks on the elbow got a bit lighter over time. r
