In Irpin, a suburb of the Ukrainian capital, Banksy shows us a rhythmic gymnast wearing a collar and a gymnastics ribbon. She is floating above a gaping hole. Less than 10 kilometres (over six miles) away from his 'rhythmic gymnast', Banksy made a representation of a housewife in a bathrobe, with curlers in her hair, on a ruined property in Hostomel. She stands on an old kitchen chair, carrying a gas maker and holding a fire extinguisher at the ready. The Ukrainian people will never give way - we can interpret from this - but will protect their beloved homeland tooth and nail. Also in Horenka - a village belonging to the Hostomel settlement - the ruin of a house was the canvas for a typical Banksy scene. A honky older man sits carelessly - amid the devastation - scrubbing his back in a freestanding bathtub. As with the 'woman in bathrobe', Banksy symbolises here that the innocent civilians - in all respects - have been particularly hard hit. Among the intimate ruins of Borodyanka, Banksy left two murals. A gymnast performs a handstand on debris. The absolute masterpiece of the series of seven is by all means that of 'the judo fight'. A little boy floors an adult black belt judoka, as in a David and Goliath story. The male 'giant' shows strong similarities to one Vladimir Putin, who himself held the rank of black belt (eighth dan) in that martial art and was honorary president and ambassador of the international taekwondo federation. On 24 February 2023, one year after Russia invaded Ukraine, Ukrainian state postal company Ukrposhta - in consultation with Banksy - issued a multi-coloured art stamp depicting the masterful 'judo fight'. On 27 February, Banksy certified the issue on his Instagram page. Finally, another accessible limited publication, respecting Banksy's copyright and desires! The occasional stamp was given the Cyrillic title ! (Putin, Go F*ck Yourself!, PTN PNH! or FCK PTN!). 'We believe (the image on) the Ukrainian stamp FCK PTN! will become prophetic,' said Igor Smilianskyi, CEO of Ukrposhta. 'In 2023, Ukraine - which is smaller in terms of territory but hundreds of times more motivated - will finally get Russia on the mat.'
