More rare underground disco, house, funk , and even hip hop. This collection is brought to us by Simon Dunmore. for any old school collector who's familiar with the "Phat Trax complimations vol 1-7", DDD serves the same purpose. Simon is connecting the past to the present by showing how hip hop, house, funk, and disco are all connected. Me being a young guy who grew up in the hip hop generation, I've heard bits and pieces of these songs sampled in contemporary r&b and hip hop songs from the 90's.

The collection is rock solid between both cd's as Simon and Dj Span gives us a collection of underground r&b that makes for a pleasurable two disc listening experience. A few of these names are familiar such the
Isley brothers, Fatback Band, Chaka Kahn, The Staple Singers, Skyy, and the Salsoul Orchestra. However, the songs in which they're represented by doesn't show them at their very best. The songs are very good but it doesn't reach the high level of better songs that I've heard from these artists.

Other house and disco anthologies that I own are as strong as a cup of French Roast. Deep, Down and Discofied ends up being a decafinated collection of old school tracks 



However, most of the tracks are very good, if not the absolute best from their genres. This anthology is worth checking out and having in your collection if you're a verteran dance fan who worn out your Salsoul, Tom moulton, or Larry Levan complimations.


These lightweight nuggets may also appeal to contemporary R&B and hip hop audiences, since the old school r&b here is laid back and subtle as oppossed to the blaring bombast of classic disco (they tend to be scared off by tracks like "Dr. Love!").
